The Chance Initiative

Disaster Recovery and Revitalization Projects in Nepal
Help!
"Raining is really a problem. I don't have too much to say. However, if someone helps rebuilding our houses, then we can survive our simple life."

A year after the earthquake and Nepal is still a country of tarpaulins, tents and tin-roofed shacks. The Chance Initiative brings together various organizations, communities and individuals aiming to empower families that have lost their home and livelihood in a terrible natural disaster in Nepal to rebuild their life and community. It is a long-term mission to completely revive a rural community that has been obliterated after a 7.9 magnitude quake hit on 25 April, 2015.

When all big humanitarian and disaster relief organizations with ample resources seem to have forgotten, can we as a team of dreamers working at the grassroots provide meaningful solutions? Who are we? In what ways are we making a difference? What are the challenges we are facing? Why is this important? And, how can you get involved or help us?

Everyone at Future Village NPO works on a pro bono basis and there are no administrative costs associated with running the initiative. We collected over USD 300,000 since April 2015 that has gone into providing emergency relief, a path to recovery, redevelopment of schools and initial funding for Build the Home, Build the Future. However, to sustain our endeavours that support and help devastated communities that see little in the way of government help, we need your support.

An important aspect of our endeavours is to create, document or produce a visual and written record of the post-earthquake reality in one of the world's poorest region. We want to share the stories of grief and joy, struggle and perseverance, of progress toward a hopeful future.

Given the lack of organizations (big and small) that reject an investment in long term redevelopment (beyond simply providing immediate assistance), the record of our endeavours might make a significant contribution to disaster relief and redevelopment initiatives.
